Talk on the Camino de Norte, Change in Venue

The next event being organised by the Walkers Association of Ireland is a talk on the Camino de Norte.

When: Thursday March 26th at 8pm

Where: Upstairs in the Yellow House Pub, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14.

John Cruise will be giving an illustrated talk on walking in Spain. The
full Camino del Norte is a walk of 756km (established in the 9th
century), however John tells us that there are many shorter sections.
John walks frequently in Wicklow and has also completed the Camino
Frances and Camino Portugues.

Hauling Sledge in poor weather.Hauling Sledge in poor weather.The Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team were alerted by the Defence forces based in the Glen of Imaal to two men missing in the Lugnaquillia area at 21:00 yesterday evening (Monday, 09 February 2009).

With deteriorating weather conditions, the Glen team notified Gardaí and neighbouring Dublin /Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team to the call and rapid response search parties were dispatched onto the mountain with high priority.

Injured Walker airlifted to hospital on St. Stephens day rescue operation

The Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and neighbouring Glen of Imaal Red Cross MRT were alerted just after 2pm today to help an injured hill walker in the vicinity of Djouce Mountain, on a popular walking route just behind the Powerscourt Waterfalls.

An experienced hill walker in her 20's had slipped on the path her group were following and incurred a fracture to her lower leg in the fall. Other walkers in her group had attempted to move her closer to a forestry access road, but decided to contact Mountain Rescue for assistance as she was in quite severe pain at this time.

From the Modern Navigation course (next course Oct 4th - but possibly sold out) to our support for Challenge Walks the WAI has made modest but continuous progress. 3 Peaks Rescues cause problems in UK

Mountain rescue teams in the Lake District are alarmed at the growing numbers of "three peaks" walkers they are being called out to help.

The area's 450 volunteers from 12 teams are being put under "incredible strain", it is claimed.

OSi Trail Master - The Next Step

OSi Trail Master, the popular interactive route planning software for hill-walkers, climbers, cyclists, tourists and outdoor enthusiasts is going online.

The new online service, to be launched in August 2008 and run by Star-APIC will provide people with the ability to download maps of Ireland, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, and in the coming months Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and Northern Ireland.
