Walkers Association of Ireland Membership.

The Walkers Association of Ireland, WAI, creates and manages a number of services for walking and hillwalking in Ireland. Our work allows and coordinates interested volunteers in delivering services. To do this we require some finance.

The WAI has two main types of membership.
(1) Individual Membership

The Walkers Association of Ireland Constitution.

A draft of the constitution was presented at the General Meeting of 20th September 2009. Following discussion and some small agreed amendments, here is the Constitution which is to come into force on 1st Jan 2009.

The Constitution.

1. NAME
The name of the Association shall be The Walkers Association of Ireland (hereinafter referred to as "The Association")

An exploratory meeting to see if there was interest in a new national hillwalking interest group was held in Dublin on the 28th April 2007. The meeting, held by the Irish Ramblers Club, heard about the background and the outlines of what the suggested grouping might do. These include a number of subgroups in areas such as cooperative holidays, technical interest, challenge walks and summit-bagging, photography, trail-repair etc with an overall binding provided by a website.
Some 50 people attended the meeting and strong support was expressed for the proposal.
