Here is a bunch of opinions on safety in winter. Winter walking is immensely fun and mostly safe. The three Scottish deaths so far this winter have been of experienced people in extreme places, so avoid extreme places. Winter skills are best picked up from people who know. Skilled friends are great and there's lots of good courses available in Scotland. However most of us learn by our mistakes so heres a few pointers.

Following the very successful Table Quiz, which raised over €800 for Mountain Rescue Ireland, the Walkers Association of Ireland is hosting two more winter meets in March. The first of these is on March 5^th and is hosted by the Irish Ramblers Club, when Anne Morrissey will be talking about Munro “bagging” in Scotland. There will be plenty of opportunity for questions to learn how to get there, where to stay, when to go and much more.

Irishmen and women awake! Your birthright’s being trampled on and the hills are free no more! Ah, so there we go then, a scenario from any time in the 18th century. I’m a foreign agitator with the loosest idea of the facts trying to get a native rebellion under way. Well the French used you and let you down and so did the Spanish. Now it’s the Scots, but, hey, I’ll be with you in spirit.
