KNOCKMEALDOWN CROSSING 2010

"Weather is here, Wish you were beautiful" or is it the other way’ round.

Whilst thankfully no rain would show itself on this years Knockmealdown Crossing this was not to mean that it was in anyway sunny.Alas sunshine would remain its usual elusive self.

A lesser officer might start to take it personal especially when it was shorts, tee-shirts and handkerchiefs with knots tied in each corner (for your head) the week previous.

Still and all it was plenty evident that this flustered no-one and everyone to a tee pottered through the day in top spirits.

"B and C" walks especially (being in closer groups) took the opportunity to meet new acquaintances and discuss new found labours of things Mountainous and Boggy and what was very noticeable was how many old friends would bump into each other over the course of the day.Indeed good company is what goes a long way to an enjoyable day out especially when the incredible views from the Knockmealdowns would remain shrouded for the given day.

There were over 180 souls who took to the hills in what is truly a very well organised and “looked –forward to” Challenge Walk. For many it was their first time to venture into the world of Hillwalking challenges and all that I spoke to assured me it would not be their last.

No two ways about it - it was sunshine and buttercups for all who thoroughly enjoyed another great day out courtesy of Peaks Mountaineering Club.

Many Thanks, Jim Holmes.
