The Summits

The site has a page for each of 840 summits in Ireland into which people can
contribute comments, routes, impressions, photos etc.  warts and all.
Over time some 400+ contributors have added thousands of contributions building
to a substantial resource. Contributors have added material for each of the 500m and up
summits and are now rapidly adding similar to those between 400 and 500m.
Contributors can also rate summits to provide insights into the places and areas
of greatest interest.

The Walks

Many of the summits include the bones of routes (including GPS positions for
starting points or parking).  The newer Walks section adds the facility to
describe multi-leg routes more fully.

The Lists and your Log

MountainViews incorporates various lists of summits.  The site believes
that a List is a personal agenda for exploration.  It also believes that no
matter how many interesting overseas destinations may be visited, there is
always a need for nearer challenges.  So the MountainViews lists starts
with a local list (local that is to your home), lists of the highest summits and
comprehensive lists of all of the summits for a truly life-time challenge.
There is even a list that includes the best summits rated the best in categories
such as Challenge, Wilderness.

If you wish to you can join the 600 people who log what they have climbed and
compare your progress through your exploration agenda.

Motley Views

This forum allows for comment on any issues of interest to do with
hillwalking.  A community of users exchange views in this forum, paying
several thousand visits each month.

GPS

MountainViews provides GPS information about the summits it features in a
form that allows the data to be uploaded to GPS units.  Given the state of
GPS mapping in Ireland this can be extremely useful.  MountainViews also
has articles on creating your own maps for GPS units and using other simple GPS
maps for GPS units that accept mapping.  There is also a tool tfor
correcting MountainViews record of where the summits are.

Hillwalking on saturdays

Martin Quinn

Would anybody know of a hillwalking club in the Dublin area that walks on a saturday during the winter months.
Most of the clubs that I checked out on the net seem to walk on Sundays only during winter time and then mid-week and/or saturdays during the summer.
