BLACKSTAIRS WALK 2010

(Bus leaves St Mullins & Glynn at 06.45hrs to go to the start)

The Blackstairs Walk is a 26Km (16.2 miles) mountain walk along the Carlow Wexford Border.

The walk begins at Killanure (Grid Ref S 890 537) off the R746 from Bunclody to Kiltealy. The walk ends at Byrne’s Pub in Glynn (Grid Ref S 745 395).   A certificate will be awarded to all who participate in and/or complete the walk

 

Cumulative ascent:1,525M (5,900 feet)               Time: Average 9 hours. 

Conditions of Entry
Participants must:
1. Be over 16 years of age. Participants between 12 – 16 years may be considered, if accompanied at all times, by an adult who is an experienced hill walker.
2. Be in fit physical condition and have reasonable hill walking experience.
3. Wear suitable wind and waterproof clothing, and hiking boots.
4. Have a compass and an Ordnance Survey map of the area. (Sheet 68).
5. Start the walk between 07.30 – 08.30hrs.
6. Reach the middle checkpoint at Sculloge Gap by 13.00hrs.
7. Finish the walk not later than 18.30 hrs.
8. Carry their control cards during the walk.
9. Pay €10.00 entry fee.


Other Information


 A campsite is available in St. Mullins close to Glynn.
You will find a list of local B&Bs on our website, and there are others to be found in tourist guides.
Two buses leave from the St. Mullins and Glynn to drive participants to the start of the walk. The bus trip is €5.00. Participants are advised not to drive to the Killanure as there is no official transport from the finish back to the start.
The entry fee (€10.00) and bus trip (€5.00) will be collected on the bus.
