The Twelve Bens Walk

Club: Na Beanna Beola Hill-walking Club
12 Bens Challenge

INFORMATION FROM 2008

IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ:
While we welcome experienced participants, we remind you that this Challenge is one of the toughest in
Ireland. We ask that you do not attempt the challenge if your idea of ‘tough’ is a 4-hr hike in good weather. You put other people’s lives in danger (i.e. the mountain rescue service) if you are inappropriately prepared or incompetent at navigation. Please read (and ensure that all of your party read) the conditions of entry (below). When you sign the registration form, you are confirming that you have read and agree with the conditions of entry.

This is an extremely tough, strenuous challenge and should only be attempted by experienced hill-walkers. It requires that you are a competent navigator (or you are with someone who is a competent navigator – if the weather is bad you’re on your own – the walk organizers will populate the checkpoints only, they do not provide guides on the challenge). All participants, regardless of whether part of a group, should have their own map and compass.

Again this year: Gear check at registration. The organisers reserve the right to refuse entry if participants are not sufficiently equipped for the day.
