Injured Walker airlifted to hospital on St. Stephens day rescue operation
The Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and neighbouring Glen of Imaal Red Cross MRT were alerted just after 2pm today to help an injured hill walker in the vicinity of Djouce Mountain, on a popular walking route just behind the Powerscourt Waterfalls.
An experienced hill walker in her 20's had slipped on the path her group were following and incurred a fracture to her lower leg in the fall. Other walkers in her group had attempted to move her closer to a forestry access road, but decided to contact Mountain Rescue for assistance as she was in quite severe pain at this time.
While en-route to the casualty site, Mountain Rescue specialists tasked the Irish Coast Guard S61 Rescue helicopter from Dublin Airport, to expedite the casualties removal to hospital.
When the first Mountain Rescue hill party and Coast Guard winch man arrived on scene, they provided first aid treatment to the casualty for the lower leg injury and administered pain relief. The casualty was packaged into the Coast Guards basket stretcher before she was winched on-board the helicopter for transport to hospital.
We would like to extend our thanks to all involved in this successful operation:

We would also like to extend our thanks to members of the public and the casualty's walking companions who provided care and assistance in advance of rescue specialists arriving on scene.
