Lug Walk Review 2007

Weather is here, wish you were beautiful………..or is it the other way around.

Alas with the best weather in over 20 years on both of the Connemara walks this season; and with “Gob-smacking” views to boot I couldn’t help but get that funny feeling deep down that something just might give………on the “Lug Walk”

And yupp sure as blisters are painful and my flask won’t keep warm, the weather very much indeed took a turn so as to have the last laugh.

But here’s the thing….. you know when you were a little boy or girl and come the rain you headed straight for the first big puddle…….? Well I never really grew out of that (apologies now to all I bewildered on being a tad too jovial at times during the driving wind and rain on Saturday last).

Not that I purposely went looking for any bog-holes three days ago (they very cleverly found me instead !!!), but when engagements did occur they won all battles and believe me when I say I truly did have some tear-jerking battles. Indeed great Campaigns of our time were most probably only in the “halpenny place” to the day that was laid on for us by those loveliest of peoples the “Irish Ramblers”.

Sincere thanks to all for a great job well done.

Bananas and orange juice went a long way towards the keeping up of morale at Wicklow Gap and a high sided ambulance allowed for one to strip off  (mmmm……yes really) and into fresh dry gear (well for another 20mins anyway).

That said if the punters within were any use I still can’t see as to why I wasn’t allowed inside for a lie down and a shot of morphine (in any or either order, at this stage I wasn’t all that fussy).

And whilst all gripes are now out in the open, will someone please answer me as to what is the big deal with slapping up a McDonalds on the top of Lug? It’s not like it’s not going to get the business or anything. I can nearly almost sympathise with the expectant mother who truly craves for the Rhubarb Crumble with Onion Gravy……nearly…..almost……(after all everyone knows it’s harder for the Fathers these days…..) What I wouldn’t have given for a King Size Jammy Burger or whatever comes close on that everlasting grassy approach to the summit.

Very well done to all and continued thanks to everyone concerned………Oh and would it be possible to have a large fries with my burger? Thanks a bunch…….. (of bananas?). Jim Holmes.
