The Challenge is approx. 40Km. with about 2000m ascent. It is advisable that participants should have completed other long distance walks with at least 1500m ascent or more. This is a Challenge Walk for the very experienced walker with a high level of fitness required ("A" Grade walker). The average walking time is about 10 hours. Apart from the physical challenge, it is a test of iiavigation and route finding especially in poor weather conditions.
The challenge starts near Glenabby just off the R671 Dungarvan to Clonmel Rd.(S 193 193) and finishes approx. 5Km outside Dungarvan (X 275 971)

Comeragh Crossing Walk
The Comeragh Crossing is a. long distance mountain walk from Clonmel to Dungarvan over massif of the Comeragh and Monavullagh Mountains.
The walk is approx. 30Km. long with about 1150m. ascent, with beautiful scenery on a good day, but has proved difficult on an inclement day. The average time to cover the entire route is 10
hours.
There are 3 stages to the walk and it is also possible to join the walk at Stage 2 or Stage 3 later in the day. Experience and fitness are needed to complete all three stages.
Entrants have the option of joining a group with a walk leader and sweeper.
- Stage 1: Start (Glenabbey) to Nire Car Park
Mountain terrain with moderate ascent. Bus leaves Dungarvan 7.30a.m.
- Stage 2 Nire Car Park to Whites Cross
Mountain terrain with approx. 520m ascent with marshy ground on summit plains. Bus leaves Dungarvan at 10.00a.m.
- Stage 3 : The Carraigs to Whites Cross
Open mountain and forest tracks. Due to the change of route since 2006, boots are now required for this section. Bus leaves Dungarvan Soccer club at 13.00hrs.
It is recommend that "B" Grade walkers start at either Stage 1 or 2 and "C1' Grade walkers participate in the easier Stage 3 .
Registration
All participants MUST register at Dungarvan Soccer Club at
least fifteen minutes before bus departure.
Please Note : it is NOT possible to register at Glenabbev.
Registration fee is €25, other than Stage 3 which will be €20. €5.will be_donated to West Waterford Hospice from all entries
Transport
Transport is provided from Dungarvan Soccer Club to the start
points. Participants are advised that transport is NOT provided
back to Glenabbey or other start points later in the day.
At walk finish, transport will only be provided from
Whites Cross to Dungarvan Soccer Club

To join at Stage 2 or Stage 3 Buses depart Dungarvan Soccer
Club at l0.00hrs. and I3.00hrs respectively.
Free Parking is available near the Soccer Club in Dungarvan.
Food and Drink
As the walk will take up to 10 hours to complete, participants
should carry enough food and liquids with them. In addition
light refreshments will be available at the Nire Car Park, Seefin
and the Mauma Rd. and a more substantial meal will be
provided at Dungarvan Soccer Club.
Leaving the Comeragh Crossing
If, on the day, it becomes impossible for a walker to complete the course,
he/she should try to finish at a manned checkpoint
and hand in their control card there. A steward will advise as to transport to Dungarvan etc. In circumstances where this is not possible, the emergency phone number on the control card should be contacted A.S.A.P. so that help can be arranged.
Organiser's decisions
In any matter arising in connection with the Crossing, the
organiser's decision is final. Every precaution is taken to
safeguard the walkers, but those taking part do so at their own
