A journey across one of the most beautiful corners of the Himalaya sees
Dermot Somers on the trail of the greatest annual migration left on Earth.
Every year, families of Buddhist yak herders pack their belongings and
attempt to escape their mountain homes before winter cuts them off. It is a
journey against time and weather and Dermot spends almost three months in
the mountains tracking down the families and finding one willing to take
him on. The entire existence of the people known as the Dolpo-pa revolves
around this journey as they trek through a soaring landscape, traversing
the highest mountain passes in the world, until the exhausted caravaneers
eventually reach their destination - the lowland valleys of Southern Nepal.
Here they trade their goods for supplies to see them through another savage
