BURREN WALK

Registration is at the recreation area beside the entrance to Fanore Beach, Co.Clare. (Grid Ref. No.; M142082)
from 09:00 to 12:00hrs.

Cost €10.
First walker off at 10.00am. & last walker off NO later than 12.00 mid day.

Map: OS Discovery series Sheet 51. The walks start and finish at the Fanore Recreational Area and finishes 3Km south of Black Head on the R477.

Where possible the route of the walks traverse green roads and limestone paving. There are 5 manned checkpoints, the "A" walk and 3 of these are also on the "B" walk. As historically the weather is good at this time of the year, there is usually spectacular views across Galway Bay to Connemara and the Aran Islands.

A) WALK: 27km. Ascent 600m

B) WALK: 25km. Ascent 300m

JUNIOR WALK: 14km. Ascent 200m

There are a total of six checkpoint throughout the mapped walks which are in continous contact with base.
First aid facilities are also provided at checkpoints and base.
NGR references are given for those who wish to enter them in on the GPS.
If anyone carries a, licence free, PMR radio they may contact the checkpoints on Channel 3 - if they are in difficulty or need "reassurance".

Certificate of completion will be presented at the finish.
