The Galtys Walk (Gus Tobin Memorial Walk) 2012  

The annual Galtys Walk (Gus Tobin Memorial Walk) will take place on Saturday 9th June 2012.

Distance: 26K Cumulative climb: 1400m.

 A fine walk traversing the Galtys from West to  East requiring a good level of fitness and navigational skills.

Register: Register at the Foot Pub (R:962 287) from 7.30am to  8.00am.

Buses: 1st bus leaves The Foot Pub at 8.00 a.m. 2nd bus leaves The Foot Pub at 8.15 a.m.

Entry Fee (including transport to start): €20 (over 18s only)

 The final leg  from point 597m to “The Foot” has been altered to make it more amenable and safer to walkers and directions are provided.

*** Start ** : follow marked route to stile at R831 195.
There is a cairn at R837 200 below the highest point on the ridge. A wide track
will lead almost to the summit of Temple Hill.

**** Finish ***: Directions will be given from the last
checkpoint to the finish - new route 

All walkers should use the bus transport to the start of the walk to minimise disruption to the local residents near the start where parking facilities are minimal.  Refreshments will as usual be provided at the end. Accommodation is available in Cahir and in the local area.

Gus Tobin, RIP, was a long-time member of Tyndall MC in which club he was a frequent office holder. He was very much involved in the organisation of the Galtys Walk over the last 20 years or so and always played a major role on the day. Looking forward to seeing you.
