An umbrella group for Irish hillwalkers.
The Lakedistrict hillwalking club were very pleased with the high turnout for their 2009 Joyce Country Challenge.
Over the three years this of this event, numbers have grown with each year. This year over 150 people took part in the 3 arranged walks. The Challenge continues to attract the very fit and dedicated walker, and again this year local man David Joyce was first home in a time of 3 hours and 50 minutes.
The first time I "had a go" at the Lug Walk it was the "year that never was".....
Foot and Mouth had declared the mountains "no go" areas and although the ban was eventually lifted it would come just a tad too late for the organisers - The Irish Ramblers Club - so a bunch of four of us decided to bash away on the day anyway .
The Dublin Airport Fire Service was approached by the M.S Therapy Centre some months ago in order to assist them in raising money for their charity.
The suggestion was to attempt a charity climb which would involve climbing 6 of the highest peaks on the island of Ireland in 72hrs, something that has never been done before.
